Why does my MIDI to USB interface not work?
I recently bought a MIDIMate II USB 2.0 MIDI Interface cable. I want to use it to connect my Yamaha PSR-170 keyboard to my PC as a MIDI controller for Reason and Pro Tools 8 LE. I'm running Windows XP SP3 and have an Mbox 2 Mini (which has no MIDI ports, hence the need for the MIDI/USB Interface).
When I connected the cable to my PC for the first time, Windows tried locating drivers for the interface to install. According to the directions of the product, no drivers are necessary however and I cancelled this process. Problem is, this device is now showing that its not functioning correctly due to this and I have so far not been able to connect the keyboard (or my Roland MC-303, for that matter) to my PC.
It's not working because you cancelled the process.
By 'no drivers are necessary' it meant no additional drivers to the ones built into Windows, but windows still needs to go and install them (its own built-in ones) for the device.
What you will have to do is plug it in, open the device manager (Right click My Compter, click Manage) and remove it from device manager (right click the item and click remove)
Then restart the computer and plug it in, this time letting Windows do whatever it wants until it says "This device is ready to use"
By cancelling it mid-setup Windows never got a chance to make the device ready for use.

korg triton workstation help?
hi i own a korg triton work station 76key keyboard and am using a roland ED um-1 usb midi interface cable and am trying to connect it to my pc desktop,im using a program called mixcraft 4 and for some reason it detects the usb interface but does not actually play the key im playing on the keyboard "e.g" if i am using a synth string instrument on key board (it comes through as a piano sound on pc) i have played with setting till my hair has nearly fallen out..i only bought this keyboard so i could make music beats with it" so if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated..thanks heaps

Midi cables connected from your triton to your PC will transer/translate DATA.
Audio cables connected from your triton to your PC will take the translated data and send it through your audio device (ie: speakers)
It sounds to me like you only have a midi connection going through, since you stated that it obviously recognizes your keyboard, but won't play the sounds from it.
