Series Api Are there ANY Calif adopted Literature series texts that offer a full-series WRITING curriculum?
I am sick of adopting literature series texts in California that offer only "components" to actual writing but do not actually TEACH or even just RESOURCE the elements of good writing (including but not limited to genre facts, topics from which to select according to each genre, brainstorming, outlining, composing, editing, rewriting, editing, and publishing with specific attention to the content, fluency, word choice, voice, mechanics, grammar, and PRESENTATION - a.k.a. legibility ). I have spent the last 8 years reinventing this particular wheel for a district that so desperately needed it but does not appreciate it because it is "NOT WHAT THE STATE TEST API SCORES NEED." Policitically correct bull does not TRULY HELP students learn to focus their thoughts or organize their arguements - both skills the state EXIT exam DOES require but high schools also do not teach.
I am a qualified, nationally recognized teacher who is frustrated & unappreciated. Any lit supporters?
I sympathize with you! And I applaud your efforts.
I am not from California, but I have seen a myriad of texts that the publishers claim cover all of the state benchmarks and support subject integration, yada yada yada. (The reps also say that the texts contain so much that you need to pick and choose what you will use.) But they are so poorly done that if you followed their lead, the kids would not get what they need. I don't believe that any one text series (in any subject) can be reasonably expected to cover everything that needs to be taught in a subject in depth, much less also teach writing and composition. This is just as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
Does California support the use of supplemental texts? Check with your state schoolbook depository. Units of Study by Lucy Calkins and 6+1 Traits of Writing by Culham are two very good resources on writing that can be adapted to any grade level.
These state tests are really wreaking havoc with our educational systems! Teachers need to be given the opportunity and resources to teach what they know the students must learn whether it is on the test or not--and it has to start well before the high school years.

Recieved Material test certificate with of API 590+ASME B16.47 A-96, the material is to Series B.can be used?
In what features does ASME B16.47 A-96 and B-96 differs.can i use ASME B16.47 series B instead of A series.
Large bore flanges (above NPS 24") to ASME B16.47-Series A or MSS-SP 44 are heavier/stronger than the ASME B16.47-Series B in the same size and pressure rating.
In most end-users piping specifications the Serie A is specified, which can whithstand more external loadings than the Serie B type.
For both series the dimensions are different. From a commercial point of view, the serie B type may be selected for piping with a non critical application.
Effects Library What are some objects that accidentally set off the library book alarm?
I frequently see people who aren't carrying anything set off the security gates at the library where I work. What is causing the problem? I've heard that magnets or watches can sometimes to do this. But why don't all magnets or all watches have this effect?
It is not easy to answer because it depends on the type of alarm system used.
The most popular system is sending a low power radio frequency and search for "something" that will be a tuned circuit for that freqency.
a Tuned circuit is typically a (small) piece of metal where one part behaves like a coil (it can be a long piece of wire more or less folded)
and a capacitor (i.e. two pieces of metal with an insulator between them)
Theoretically, it is very unprobable to find an object that will exactly have the right shape to trigger the alarm. I suspect this alarm sytem need some tuning to reduce its sensitivity.
Series Native PBS Native American Gang Mini Series?
I'm thinking with all the people who come here, Someone has to know what I'm talking about.
I saw some movie or mini series, This was a couple years ago. Not sure how long but I caught it halfway ending on PBS.
It was about if I'm not mistaken these 2 native american sisters, One was the good daughter while the other was into all these gang related activities and always fighting with her sister. They lived somewhere in some slum in a house. I don't recall parents being in the picture maybe the mother was but all I recall was the story of the two sisters and one was just going down the wrong path. I think the gang related sister at the end gets shot from a drive by. Does anyone have an idea what was the name of this movie ? It's really good and maybe I can look it up on the net once I have a name. Thanks !
Clap Sample Drum Can monkeys be taught to sing, beatbox, or play drums?
We seen them trained for all sorts of things, flying airplanes, doing movies, making faces on command, even trained to do sign language enough to communicate in full, we'd seen them take samples for our scientists in dangerous spots we're too chicken to send humans in, we'd seen them take care of animals, and even be more tender than humans tend to do, so we'd seen they're empathic creatures, we've proven they're intelligent enough to communicate, I wonder if they're capable of being trained to sing, beat-box, clap or play hand drums and keep a good rhythm or write a real song together, not just humans making fun of monkeys but real monkeys being trained to play songs. Is there such a thing?
wild Chimps and possibly so other primates have been observed to use sticks to beat logs to make deliberate sounds.
gorillas pound their chests in power displays
Whales have extremely complex "songs" and so do dolphins
for whatever reason humans have the most powerful and complex brains and abstract thought
animals have the precursor of of most of our abilities.
a complex nervous system seems to be extremely valuable in evolution for survival.
we are learning more about the mind of both animal and human but there is still much much more we do not know
