Firewire Solo Audio
How do I hook up my guitar to my interface to my computer?
I just got this new M-Audio Firewire Solo interface.
I've set up the interface with my computer, but how do I connect my guitar to it?
I plug my cable into the 1/4 inch jack, which I'm assuming goes to my amp, but to which hole? There's of course the input, but then there's also the DI Emulated, the CD Input, the headphone jack, and the EXT LS external input.
I'm very unexperienced with recording instruments to the computer. Please help if you can.
P.S.- The M-Audio interface is connected to my computer via firewire, if that helps.
It plugs into the M-Audio device in the input jack, just like it plugs into your amp.
If you want to run your amped or processed signal to the computer, run a cable from the amp or processor's "out" (preferably not the headphone one if it's got one of those) jack.
The specifics of getting it to recognize your signal are going to be up to you; the more you're comfortable with the software you're using to record, the easier it will go. Trust me on this! Be as familiar as you can be when you go to actually lay down tracks. You're going to spend a lot of time fiddling around with the sound levels, start, stop, and editing controls.
Good luck! I had to learn all my stuff -- I used cakewalk 6 or 7 -- the hard way.
