Audio Made Are there any decent car audio head units made in the US?
I have a 96 Saturn SL, and it's entirely American made. I hella like American made stuff, but I can't find a head unit that's made here. There's a plethora of speakers and amps to choose from though... just no head units.
there are no american built head units, decent or otherwise.
Go ahead and buy the headunit you want. Look at it this way a bunch of your cars electronic controls were not made in the usa anyway. They may have been assembled here but with foreign parts. Their have been no u.s. manufactures of circuit boards or capacitors for 20 years.
When will Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets be made as an audio book?
I really want to get the audio book. I know Philosoper's Stone has been made into one, so when will Chamber of Secrets be one? I know it hasn't been released yet, but I just want to know if anyone knows about it?
All of the novels in the series have been made into audio books. CoS has been in that form since 1999.
High Voltage Is it hazardous for your health if your home is under HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRIC CABLES/TOWER?
I am planning to buy a house that is directly under a high voltage cables between two Electric Company Hightower. Some people the cables and radiation from the high voltage cables are hazardous for health. Is it true?
Maybe. While many studies say that there is no problem, many such studies are sponsored by power companies.
One of the "proofs" that they give is that animals seem to co-exist with such HV lines with no problems...but the evidence says that they adapt to the electromagnetic radiation from the lines, which initially does disrupt some biological functions.
It seems that the most stress is caused by moving in and out of those areas and having to readjust each time.
Some pretty good studies have shown a correlation between living near such lines and health problems. This is from a study published in PubMed (The National Library of Medicine)
"Performance on most memory and attention measures was unrelated to exposure, but significant linear dose-response relationships were found between exposure and some psychological and mental health variables. In particular, higher time-integrated exposure was associated with poorer coding-test performance and more adverse psychiatric symptomatology."
And this one..
"Relation between suicide and the electromagnetic field of overhead power lines.Reichmanis M, Perry FS, Marino AA, Becker RO.
Laboratory studies have shown that electromagnetic fields similar to those from high-voltage transmission lines can produce biological effects. Surveys of the actual effects of such lines on exposed individuals usually have been hampered by complicating factors tending to blur the data. By means of a new approach, however, correlation has been established between the presence of transmission-line fields and the occurrence of suicides in part of the Midlands of England."
I don't think it's been investigated as it should be, simply because of the incredible social and economic impact that any bad news would bring. Much like trans-fats, that were pushed purely for economic gain by food producers, and those same food producers sponsored all sorts of studies to get the results they wanted. Medicine went right along with it, and for years championed such things as Margarine as good stuff. The overwhelming evidence now is that it is very bad stuff, and we suffered for it.
It's sad that science can be pushed around by money, but it is. If your study might disrupt the "powers that be", it won't find funding or publication.
"The Body Electric" is a good book that looks very hard at this, written by Dr. Robert Becker who was a pioneer researcher into the electrical nature of biological entities. Like people.
I wouldn't live under them!

How do I know what is high powered voltage for a tanning bed?
Does anyone know what the voltages are for low, med, and high voltage tanning beds are?
silver beds (regular bed, lowest, 20 minutes max) : 120 watt
gold beds (15 minute beds, also called ultimate beds): 160 watt, 3 face tanners at 300 watt
platinum beds (12 minute beds): 160 watt, 3 face at 400
diamond beds (or matrix bed at some salon, 12 minute bed): 520 watts top, 20 bottom
Construction Kits What's the advantage of a roof having a "dry verge"?
First I need to make it plain that I work away from home a lot, for weeks at a time. The area we live in is mainly bungalows and houses- 1960's 1970's and 1980's. The roofs are all standard construction whith "gable ends", and the ends of the tiles were cemented to prevent water ingress.
I recently noticed taht - as if by magic- about 75% of these housesd are now sporting UPVC tiling on the edge of their roofs, and very smart it looks too. I strongly suspect that some company or other has been doing a big promotion in the area!
Having looked around on the internet I find that this is called a "DRY VERGE" . You can buy dry verge kits on Ebay and probably do it for about 90 pounds per gable.
Has anyone had experience of fitting this "dry verge" stuff? - and OK it looks good but how cost effective is it?
Dry verges and ridges eliminate the need for mortar pointing. Mortar has a tendency to shrink and crack over time and will often fall out or allow water to enter the roof space through cracks.
Dry verges and ridges are normally made by manufacturers for specific tile profiles as a good fit is fundamental to their operation as a weatherstop. I would avoid buying off ebay as there is a good chance you will get the wrong profile for your type of tile.
I would suggest that the generic UPVC unit being fitted to your neighbours houses is better than the ebay purchase but a long way short of the manufacturers specific unit.
Get a quote from the UPVC guys and ask a few neighbours how it has performed over time. Don't be mislead by any warranties as they are not normally worth a carrot. Bank on the UPVC lasting about 10 years before the UV light will have made it brittle and yellowed. Time for replacement !?
I need to know how to make a model of the Tribune Tower. It can be made out of cardboard or construction paper. I don't want to buy any kits so it needs to be something I can find at home, or at a hardware store.
Out Midi Thru How do i make my headphones work with my digital piano?
i don't know why the sound isn't being transferred into the headphones.
the jacks i have are:
pedals
midi (in, out, thru)
line in (left, right)
line out (left, right)
my headphone is a 1/8" with a 1/4" adapter
any help is appreciated.
i've been informed that it has dual headphone jacks. does this mean i have to buy some adapter to plug into those two jacks or does it mean one jack for one headphone?
The most likely problem here is that there is no headphones jack in your instrument. Usually headphones do have their own jack but if that is lacking, you most likely cannot use headphones with your instrument.
I'm looking to buy some sort of accessory for my partners bass guitar (for a birthday gift).
I've been looking at effects pedals (this is his first guitar and is just starting out) but have no clue about such things. I'm not looking to pay more than £100 (needs to be from a UK supplier). Can anyone recommend something that may be worth buying?
Would consider any other type of equipment for bass guitar/home recording studio etc...
the Line 6 BassPOD is a good way to go... its not really an Effects pedal, but a tone / FX modeler,
in short, you can model well known types of bass sounds and effects, then tweak them to your specs....
this is a VERY good tool for "finding yourself" then once you're found, you can go and get the actual gear you need to produce your particular tone...
another +++ is that you can find these used for relatively cheap, not too much more expensive than a pedal... but definitly 10x more useful!
enjoy!
EDIT:::: Threw in another link for you the 2nd link is to a page where you can listen to this thing in action! that should really help your decision process...
What do you call an effects pedal that gives off a bass effect, but for a 6 string guitar?
I'm trying to find a guitar effects pedal (standard 6 string electric) that creates a deep boom sound but it's hard to type it in without having pedals come up for a bass guitar, which is not what i'm looking for.
I think you're looking for an octave divider pedal. These effects devices will output a note an octave lower than the one you are playing.
You can mix the octave with the natural sound any way you like, or only hear the octave.
