Putting together a sports photography portfolio?
In my former profession, I worked as the Sports Editor for a daily newspaper, and I have a folder on my laptop of all of the good pictures I took during my time with that job.
I'm working on applying for a new job as a News Photographer for a local broadcasting station, and they need me to turn in my portfolio. The problem is that I have no idea how to come about creating one. I could always ask them, but of course, I want to sound like a professional that knows what he's doing while applying for a job!
What kind of folder do I need to put these photos in? What size do the photos need to be? How should the portfolio itself be arranged? I need to have something quick, by Tuesday morning, so what is the quickest, easiest, but most professional-looking way to create a portfolio that will mainly consist of sports and action shots?
I did this for an interview, all sports/action. Mine wasn't the most professional, but it was cheap, quick, and well recieved.
I took a very nice folder 9x12, where the pages fold over the top, then glued 2 5x7s (horizontal) or 1 8x10 vertical to each page.
Keep in mind that they might not flip very far, so best stuff up front! GOOD LUCK!
I don't think it would hurt to do the following either: have a nice business card, have a website w/ your port on it (real website, not picasaweb, and also call and ask what the employer likes to see. Tell them you have several portfolios, and you want to know which format is most desired.

Get your best images printed, 8x10" or larger (i like 12x14) and you can buy a photo portfolio from an art store or craft store. They should be black with large page protectors to slip your images into. Make sure your 3-4 strongest images are in the front. First impressions are important! They say that you grade a person's work within the first 30 seconds of looking at their portfolio.
