Used Pro Tools Hd System
Can you install Pro tools on a rackmount server?
I am trying to save space in my studio therefore, I wanted to put my cpu system in my studio rack case with my pro tools interface, EQs & compressors. I know that pro tools is compatible with certain motherboards, chipsets and processors. So I would like to know if anyone had any luck with using pro tools on a rackmount server with duel Xeon processors? If so, which ones? from what I see, there are quite a few with duel xeon processors, tons of ram, 2 sata hd, dvd drive & windows xp OS. FWIW, I don't want to buy one of those prehistoric precision workstations and I don't want to spend over $550 for a new system. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in Advance

That's an excellent question that I don't have the answer to. I remember a buddy of mine did something similar though to his system. My advice to you: check out this site - http://www.audioneeds.com - there is a forum on there with a ton of Pro Tools experts (users, teachers, etc) that can better solve this question than myself.

Yes, being that this world is becoming so technology savvy, Nikon and Canon use that as a selling point because most people that really just know how to point-n-shoot don't really know anything about an f-stop or shutter speed! Think about it… the 'average' consumer hears 'the professionals use this product', they are more likely to buy it because the want to try and DIY it, but people don't get that photographers are trained professionals… not someone who puts it on the awful 'auto' mode and calls themselves a photographer, which seems to be the trend these days. Totally making the industry ridiculous sometimes. The demand is higher for photographers. People know that they can take a picture on their little camera, run down to walgreens and have it in 2.2! They dont see what goes on in post production, so they JUST DON'T GET IT! And not to mention they want everything 'right now'.
Oh and P.S. The only difference is the CCD for color and clarity…. F-stop and shutter speeds are still the same since 1600! haha people just dont get it!
