What does the "Clip" light do on a USB interface?

I connected my piano and microphone to my presonus interface, and the clip light is lighting up at the louder parts. What does it mean?

I suspect it means it is being driven too hard and is thus clipping some of the signal.

Turn down the gain or volume or move the mic further away.
