Final Cut vs Garage Band vs Logic?
Heres the deal, im getting a mac pro and final cut studio 2 for video editing but i also want to do some audio editing too, i know that final cut studio 2 comes with soundtrack pro 2, and ilife comes with garage band, so im wondering, what are the major differences between garage band, soundtrack pro, and logic studio, are there any? Is logic basically just a garage band with more sounds in it? And thats another thing, i want logic cause it has like 18,000 royalty free music tracks vs soundtrack pro with around 1000, so is the any way that i can get those 18,000 tracks and add them to soundtrack or garageband without buying logic studio, is that possible? Thank you in advance.
Let's get some things straight here:
Final Cut Pro is for video editing.
Soundtrack Pro is for laying down a Soundtrack to a Video you edit in Final Cut Pro.
Logic is for professional music creation using instruments.
Garageband is for music creation using instruments and extremely limited compared to Logic.
Yes, you can get those Logic tracks illegally.
Have you looked into Pro Tools for audio editing? It is cheaper than Logic, it's been around the block longer, and is used in the industry and in schools. I actually prefer ProTools to Logic 7.
If you are heavy into synthesized sound, check out Max/MSP.

If I Buy Garage Band Can I Use It On a Dell?
I've read that GarageBand is only for Mac, but if i buy the iLife Suite, or just GarageBand (the DVD) can i download it onto my dell?
no apple only i wanted to do it but it wont work so i got a macbook pro
