Can we enter notes from computer keyboard into CUBASE ?
I don't have a midi keyboard. So I want to create music with my computer keyboard. FL Studio provides with this excellent feature. What about CUBASE.

My fiance is having dropouts, he is using Tascam US1641 and Cubase 4 LE?
My fiance recently got a Tascam US1641 and Cubase 4 LE, he also got himself a new Dell Inspiron. He's been trying to record things, but has been having problems with "dropouts."
The CPU has random spikes that makes the sound drop out.
The laptop has 3GB of ram and 250GB hard drive, and is brand new.
Is there anything he can do to fix it? Is it a problem with the computer or the software?

In most cases your recording interface should come with a driver which allows you to edit the ASIO buffer speed, most cases of dropouts can be fixed by doing so. Simply raise or decrease the buffer speed until no more dropouts occur.
The buffer speed is essential because it determines the speed at which your driver is interpreting the incoming soon to be audio file. If its set to high or to low (depending on your computers possible performance on the task) it may cause "dropouts".

If the driver doesn't come with the option to adjust the buffer speed he may want to download the ASIO4ALL driver and this may just as easily fix the problem.

He should also make sure the sample rate of his recoridng interface and his project in Cubase are the exact same though Cubase usually recognized that and fixes it itself.
Cables can also be an issue, make sure he isn't using cables which have been put through hell. Often hooking each mic up one by one and recording with a GOOD quality cable can help you determine the problem. It may be his cable or mic.
In the case that he is open to using a different program he may want to try audacity. By trying audacity he may be able to see if there is a compatability problem with his interface and Cubase.

His computer should not be the problem, if it is i am sure he would find the problem reoccuring in basic computing not just recording.
*Also make sure he doesnt have anything on top of the interface or surrounding it which can absorb heat easily, those items may cause overheating issues.
