Card Reader How do I download pictures onto a memory card with a card reader?
Just got a garmin 260w gps and the sales man said I can use a card reader to download pictures from my laptop onto a memory card and download it to the gps.
All you need to do is plug the reader and the memory card into your laptop, and the laptop will pretend the memory card is a little hard drive. Then, just click and drag the picture files in Explorer from your main hard drive to the memory card.
If you have Windows 98se, you will need the driver for the card reader to make this work. It should come with the card reader. If not, you can download generic removable drivers from the web.
I need to get a new memory card reader since the one built in to my PC broke. Do they just plug into the computer with a USB and you put the card in the reader? I assume you have to install the software as well. Are my assumptions correct? Anything else?
You can buy ones that plug into your usb, these are the easiest to use. Some dont require software as windows xp and vista have a lot of drivers built into the operating system. For best prices go to Newegg.com or Meritline.com. Meritline has free shipping on a lot of its items.
