What is the best midi controller for a newbie?

So I am looking forward to composing/djing Dubstep, hardstyle, club etc, and am just starting out. I wanted to get a fairly cheap controller that would suit my needs and help me learn so I could get a better one down the line. I was thinking one of the nanoKontrol setups would be nice considering its about 60 bucks. any advice? Also, I use ableton live.

Ableton's great .. I use reason.

Yeah, that little one is a good way to get the very basics, but once you learn them, you might start looking for more features. I'd go with a model of around 49 keys if you have no interest in learning piano, etc. If you do, then try for at least 61 keys. M-Audio has some pretty 'cheap' models that are actually pretty decent instruments, and have a lot of nice features as well -- if you like to mess with dynamics, their velocity curves are usually awesome.
